The COVID-19 pandemic continues to create disruption across New Zealand, causing business leaders to significantly rethink their approach to risk.
In this webinar, Tarunesh Singh, Head of Risk Advisory Services, BDO New Zealand, takes us through key insights from the latest BDO Global Risk Landscape survey, which this year focuses heavily on the evolving challenges presented by the pandemic. In New Zealand, ESG reporting, skills shortages and supply-chain disruption are all presenting fresh challenges, while engaging teams effectively and supporting them with the right technology during lockdown has been key for overcoming the barriers presented by a remote workforce.
Jarod Kerr, Chief Economist, Kiwibank, then takes us through the state of New Zealand’s economy. He details how the vaccine rollout has led to a revival in global markets and shows that Aotearoa can bounce back from the effects of the Auckland lockdown, as it has done in the past.
We next hear from Nick Davies, Chief Finance Officer, Whakarongorau Aotearoa, which provides virtual health and social services across New Zealand. He talks about decision paralysis in the face of fresh crises, and how he overcame these challenges due to his experience responding to the Christchurch terror attack. Nick found that having a dedicated team who can quickly respond to events at scale was key to moving his organisation forward, and when the Covid pandemic hit the first action he took was to create a Covid response team.
Nick also speaks about the importance of an iterative approach – in times of crisis you will not always have all the information at hand, so doing what you can with what you have available to you and being agile enough to change as events unfold is essential.
