It’s time for the BDO Summer of Cycling
Every year, BDO supports cycling events across Aotearoa to promote wellbeing for our communities and our people here at BDO.
Increasingly Kiwis are turning to their bikes for wellbeing, especially during recent lockdowns. Events like the ones we sponsor are great for setting a goal and providing an extra sense of purpose for your riding.
The first event, the SBS Bank Tour of Southland (where we sponsor the infamous BDO Bluff Hill leg) starts this weekend, with 14 teams from across the country competing in a gruelling race that covers over 800 km of beautiful Southland scenery. This event is closely followed by Crankworx Rotorua, 1 – 7 November.
We’re super excited for the Tour of Southland to kick off – particularly in light of the current challenges facing the event industry - and took the opportunity to talk to some of our most passionate cyclists and cycling supporters at BDO to find out what part of the BDO Summer of Cycling has gotten them most excited:
Greg Thomas, Advisory Partner, BDO Invercargill:
“We’re proud to continue our long-term sponsorship of the iconic Bluff Hill stage of the SBS Bank Tour of Southland – it’s an incredibly gruelling but rewarding race that takes riders through some of the most untouched parts of New Zealand – I can’t wait!”
Rachel Shoebridge, Advisory Partner, BDO Auckland:
“This year has been really tough for everyone – in Auckland we’re still struggling with the impacts of lockdown and it’s been really hard on everyone’s mental wellbeing. Mountain biking for me is a great way to get exercise, clear my head and get out into nature. I’m really looking forward to getting out on some of our great trails around NZ over the summer.
Michal Petrus, National Clients and Marketing Manager, BDO in New Zealand
“Cycling is close to our hearts at BDO – many of our clients and staff are passionate cyclists. It’s such a great healthy, low-impact form of physical exercise, and fantastic for body and mind. So many Kiwis are really looking forward to getting outdoors and participating in events again this summer as COVID-19 protocols evolve. It’s great to be able to get behind this series of cycling events at such a pivotal time - backing event tourism and hospitality businesses who’ve seen incredibly tough times, but also provide an important platform for individual wellbeing.”
This year due to COVID-19 some of our events have been rearranged or rescheduled, but there are still plenty of opportunities for you and your whānau to get involved:
